As you may have already heard – we are the Canadian Voyageurs and we are about to go on an epic journey! We are crossing Canada by canoe this summer AND we are taking the #mywildCanada chat on the road…uh the river….with us. This is something that has never been done before.
From now on we will have to reduce the number of chats we hold. We will put the Sunday chats on hold until we come back in the fall (most of you will be outdoors on weekends anyways) – and once we hit the water, we will be holding random #mywildCanada chats throughout the summer. We will try and keep our Wednesday 2 pm (eastern time) chat going as long as we can and whenever possible will use that time frame while on our trip. We should be able to host the Wednesday chats until we leave in late April or start of May – wilderness excursions always depend on conditions – we are going with the flow….
The trip itself is set to begin in May – so until then you should be able to find us Twitter at our usual Wednesday time slot. We have some big chats coming in April – the Nature Conservancy of Canada is coming back to guest host again – the penciled in date (yet to be confirmed) is for April 12th – mark this on your calendar (in pencil for now!) because you don’t want to miss this one.
We welcome anyone who wants to guest host a #mywildCanada during the spring or summer (at the usual time – Wednesdays 2pm EST) to come on board to do so. Hosting is a great way to meet like minded people and gain new followers – it’s also the most fun you can have on Twitter! Ask anyone who has hosted before. Anyone – from anywhere – is welcome to host. We have the most wonderful people join in – we share – we learn – we laugh.
If hosting interests you – please contact us by email: celinegerry at gmail.com or send us a private message on Twitter – @CanadianVoyage is our handle.
Make sure you all follow us on Facebook: Canadian Voyageurs 2015 – there you will be able to be a fly on the wall – you can follow our every stroke as we paddle across this great country of ours. Click on the “Follow us on Mapshare” tab at the top of the page.
For more information about the trip please visit our website – we are proud to support the Nature Conservancy of Canada – we are helping them in their fund raising efforts by bring attention to their very worthwhile cause!
On Sunday February 8th, #mywildCanada Twitter chatters gathered to talk about this week’s topic: winter activities. It was amazing to see how many people embrace winter. Canadians love getting outdoors and playing outside in the snow in #mywildCanada.
After last night, one thing is evident – none of the #mywildCanada participants suffer from cabin fever! People who complain about the cold obviously don’t know what they are missing. Just look at the fantastic time these people are having outside.
If you have never gone tobogganing in Canada before – you have no idea the fun you are missing. It’s almost a Canadian right of passage! I remember my first toboggan – a green garbage bag – let me tell you – those things fly!
Most of Canada gets blanketed by snow, lots of snow! Walking in the deep snow is not possible – even though we all know this – we always get our boots full of snow trying!
When we want to get out and about in the snow, we put on a pair of snowshoes or a pair of skis.
It’s so peaceful on the trails in the winter. The clean crisp fresh air fills your lungs as you take in Canada’s awesome beauty.
Whether you are out by yourself, with your friend, your spouse, your friends or your family – #mywildCanada can be enjoyed by all in the winter. Just look at how much fun this looks, look how gorgeous it is to be outside in the woods in the winter:
It’s especially fun to be outside when it’s snowing. Watching the snowflakes slowly falling as you are skiing in the woods is breathtaking: Have you ever caught a snowflake on your tongue?
Many #mywildCanada contributors are quite the adventurers – would you try this?
No? Not for you? How about this? Would you like to try riding your bike in the snow?
What? That is still not going to get you outside? Wait, I know what will! Ice climbing!
#mywildcanada is full of adventurers. One of the best things about Twitter chats is meeting so many great like minded people.
Of course, those of us who have dogs – always bring them along on our adventures in #mywildCanada:
We like to bring our wild friends with us when we play outside. Because we all know that no one like to play outside more than our best companions!
Many of the people who come to chat on #mywildCanada are bloggers and photographers. So, if you like to see amazing photos and learn amazing things – then join us for #mywildCanada chats where amazing is everywhere:
Come on outside in the snow! – you’ll love love it!
#mywildCanada is a chat on Twitter – join us every Wednesdays at 2pm (yes, we’re back) and every Sundays at 7pm – EST.
#mywildCanada has been on Twitter for about six months now and in that short period, it keeps growing and evolving. It’s become a regular on Twitter and a regular part of many people’s lives.
#mywildCanada has amazing hosts like Canadian Geographic, InReach Canada, Nature Conservancy of Canada, FindTrueNorth, Outdoor Research, Kevin Callan (The Happy Camper) – just to name a few. We’ve had dozens of outdoor enthusiasts guest host the chat – anyone can have a turn! Contact us if you are interested! We have a reach of over 250,000 people weekly and that number just keeps growing. That number astounds me because when I joined Twitter earlier this year, I didn’t even really know what a Tweet was. We have met people from all over the world – we share photos, information, experiences and we have so much fun doing it – our one hour chats fly by in the blink of an eye. We cover topics like: outdoor photography, wildlife, safety, canoe camping, adventures – anything that has to do with the great outdoors! I know #mywildCanada is the most fun I’ve had on social media in a long time.
Here are the new changes to #mywildCanada: We now have chats on Sunday nights at 8:30 pm eastern time. Sunday chats often have prizes – and sometimes BIG prizes! Join us for the fun! You won’t want to miss the chat on November 30th with Outdoor Research ORGEAR – check out details on this website. Sundays at 8:30 pm will become our new chat time, but Wednesdays are only going to get better…. From now on – Wednesdays are #mywildCanada #photo #Wednesdays and we are asking you to tweet photos of your adventures outside in this great country of ours. Tweet your photos throughout the day to #mywildCanada. Occasionally, #mywildCanada will select a lucky winner who will receive a $25 MEC (Mountain Equipment Coop) e-card. MEC is a Canadian retailer of high quality outdoor equipment. Visit their website: MEC Join us at 8:30 pm (eastern time) on Sundays and tweet your photos on Wednesdays – now there are two days a week to share photos, interact with outdoor enthusiasts and have fun and win with #mywildCanada – so get outdoors share your adventures in #mywildCanada.
